Heads up Clevland, Jim Thome's coming home. The 8th member of the 600 homerun club (and one of the 4 or 5 clean ones) waived his no-trade clause yesterday and is heading back to where it all started.
Thome made his major league debut in Indian pinstripes on September 4th, 1991, and since then has hit for a .277 average, 601 homeruns, and oh yeah, has won 5 silver slugger awards, and as a Philledelphia Phillie, led the N.L in homers with 47 in 2003, one behind Mike Schmidt's team record 48.
With Cleveland 5 1/2 games out of first, Thome is probably too little, too late. But he might just be the spark Cleveland needs to finish strong, much like how they started the season.
